If I wasnt into ancients so much I would solely collect vicky coinage.

I still buy some on occasion.

But damn thats alot of money for a coin.

I always wanted to own pattern coins, thats where some good rarity comes in for the big money

I read what it was. I have the pattern book for u.s coins so I know patterns are expensive in general.

Many patterns are more beautiful then the actual coins that went circulated themselves.

Almost as impressive as the coin is the provenance... from Sid B's collection. I think that I had this coin in my hand once at a Torex where we all used to get together for show and tell. Sid was there at one 10-12 years ago when the shows used to be at the Radison downtown. We'd all sit up on the deck by the pool, drinking suds and passing coins around and he joined us and pulled out his case. This was before the huge auction of his premier collection of Canadian coinage a year or so later.

Beautiful piece! How does a pattern end up circulated down to a "45"?

pcgs, must not of had any design to match anything up too, hard to grade the only one, thats just my option

I think that it was a pocket piece for a while ... I'm sure that they were distributed to a select few when they struck them.

Hmm... I keep nickel halves and voyageur dollars in my pocket to use as tip money as the occasion arises. But keeping a pattern in the pocket? That's baller!
