Hey everyone - sitting here at an auction, just noticed that a pretty decent 64/65 1884 CC GSA Morgan is a VAM 3a. Not knowing VAMs very well, is this a scarce/desirable pickup if I get it at a decent price? What would somethjng like this go for? Thanks!
It is an interested VAM with the clashing, but pretty common and wouldn't be worth anything above and beyond what a normal 1884 CC in that grade. I would personally stick to Top 100, Hot List 50, etc. That's where your big money is for the Morgan VAMs.
Thanks for the help guys - I ended up letting someone else pick it up, and I spent my money on: *1964 Accented Hair Kennedy Proof for $12 *1961 Proof Set with a DDR Quarter (haven't researched it yet) for just above greysheet *Couple nice Barber coins, an XF 1898 quarter with rainbow toning and an XF 1914 D dime *1927 R Italy 10 Lire **FERT** in AU for $20 *1979 P Near Date Susan B Anthony *1972 S Blue Pack Ike Dollar *Lion King silver ounce round...lol...at just over melt It was a busy day!
Well, the accented hair is similar to the other two I've pulled from proof sets - it has quite a few hairlines, so low 60's would be my guess. Would still do okay on eBay, though...but for $12 I'm not complaining (think I was the only person who recognized it as an AH.) The Wide Rim Susan B went for the astonishing price of $1.10 in a bag of other Susan B's...so again, I'm a happy camper. I'll be working on photos today as I get some other listings prepared for eBay. I changed my camera setup to a few LED lights to save space/power, and I'm going to have to find the right balance of settings again to not have blurry coins pictures... It's snowing, so it's a good day for that!
