Is my coin an error

    I found a 1978 D Lincoln penny with the mint mark filled in.
    I have been searching the internet and not found any like it.
    Is my coin an error?

    Broken die. Common.
    The low points of a coin correspond to high points of a die. The high point in the center of the D broke off, but the die continued to be used, producing your coin and many others.
