I always find myself questioning the reason I look through my quarters dispensed from the car wash change machine. Well, I think coins such as this answer my questions! In all honesty this Quarter solely caught my eye with its mint shine. Only after, I realized the doubling which to me seemed unique for change out of a dispenser. ERROR Quarter.jpg

sorry but I don't see any thing about your coin that looks like a doubled die. It may have one of the many forms of worthless doubling like die detoration or machine doubling.

I just want to be clear as to why I shared this find. It's not because I think it's a DDO, however I do agree with the loose hub idea. Now here is the kicker, it's a 2003 Missouri Statehood Quarter. It seems that this specific quarter had rejected waffled strikes escape the mint and out into circulation. Here would be the question I have, Is there a chance this coin would be the reason for the waffled rejections that escaped the mint???

It is kind of normal to find state quarters from any one of the different state series with this type of look . I can see a struck thru grease area on the neck area and in front of the neck , this happened so often it is considered as common by some folks including me. for the doubled look in front of Washington's profile and some of the letters this is one of the near worthless forms of MD . the mint had to make so many coins the dies were used until they were ready to fall apart then a few coins had to be waffled because the condition of them was so bad. your coin has nothing to do with the waffled coins. keep it if you want to and maybe some day someone may want it.

Rascal right, loose die is the same as the rest, it just says what caused the damage

Great pictures RICK....Thanks!!! I almost thought some of those pictures were of the quarter I have. Very helpful future knowledge. I will be honest, my field of interest lies with Morgans and Peace dollars. So when I come across a quarter such as this, my knowledge is very limited toward modern minted coins and how far they push the die production life. Thanks!

I think they call that a "poor man's double die" But could be wrong. I am not an expert just a fan of coins.

I agree, morgans dollars, peace dollars, would be a vam, my latest adventures our ike dollars, which has master hub doubling, which is transferred to the master die
