This is a special thread for De Orc. Proudly I present my 4 favourite German coins: 2, 3, 5 and 20 marks. Now I`m looking for 10 marks piece.
Tom,those are very nice Prussian coins. The key date in Kaiser Wilhelm II's coins is the 1888 - the Year of the 3 Kaisers (& Kings of Prussia) - Kaiser Wilhelm I,Kaiser Friedrich III,& Kaiser Wilhelm II. The Kaiser Friedrich III coins are catalogued quite low, considering that they are very seldom seen.Personally,I reckon that Kaiser Friedrich III's coinage deserves to be put up in price,as it is quite a rare issue, considering that Kaiser Friedrich III only reigned between March & June 1888. Aidan.
Thanks Aidan, I know the sad story about the "spring caesar". However, my grandpa father`s name was Wilhelm, after the king of Prussia. In the end of XIXth century it was very popular to name the child with a name of famous and strong monarch.
Curse's now I just have to get me some LOL thanks guys I realy like them  specialy like the detail in the 2 eagles. De Orc :kewl:
Beware of copies of those 5 / 10 /20 Mark gold coins. A "crook" by the name of Dr. Schmidt (dentist) sold quite a lot of copies of those coins after WWII. Even specialists often have problems identifying them as copies.
If you see what looks like a Prussian gold 5 Mark dated 1887,don't buy it,as it isn't even a real coin.If you are buying it,buy it only for the gold value, then you can get it melted down & made into a ring or another piece of jewellery. Aidan.
Aidan, perhaps he is..........then again, maybe he isn't. Let's face it he is in a better position to know what he means than you. If you don't mind i'll wait until he clarifies.
OK i'll assume that you are being serious. ...ask yourself.... WHAT two eagles was he referring to when he mentioned (quote) `specialy like the detail in the 2 eagles'. Note: he didn't say `two of the eagles' he said `THE two eagles'. Although I am no mathematical genius, my fingers tell me that there is only one eagle on each coin and that the actual number of coins featuring in the thread is greater than two. (By all means either confirm or refute this as you wish). Hence he could not have been referring to the sum total of coins when he mentioned `two' could he? Now then..... do YOU know what two eagles was he referring to? Did he (as I suspect) perhaps mistake the design on the reverse as being two eagles? I don't know, but then again that's why I asked the question of him in the first place. Ian
I am indeed `just waiting'. :eating: However, in the interim I have also responded to comments made and questions asked....just as i'm doing in this case. :thumb:
Maybe he meant (insert dramatic music here) that there were 2 Different eagle styles! The 1885 version and the 1897 version! Oh my god! When will we know?!? j/k I do think they are very attractive coins though. Thanks for sharing!
LOL sorry Ian I was refering to the 2 different designs of the 3 eagles pictured (I like eagke designs ) De Orc
