I think it is hard to say why not but I can guess so here goes. I assume that since silver is such a soft metal and the bullion coins are often getting contact they aren't perfect. The difference with the sets is they weren't treated as bullion and were uncapsulated before they made contect with other coins so more were released in mint state.

this IS fraud, this is a scam and someone should go to prison. they may prosecute this if some state A.G.'s old mother gets ripped.

how about those gators. Check out ecollector oct 6, 2006 volume 6 number 1

Ron Guth, PCGS president basically says that due to the chemical rinse the mint uses, some spotting can occur over time and they felt until the the problem is resolve they would not grade a 70 though some perfect examples may exits. Maybe they have them fixed. I do not know. just know what i have read

    Hope this helps

    Thanks for the great discussion.

My problem with the TV coin sellers is that it really gives dealerships a bad name. The unsuspecting buyer purchases something off TV for anywhere from 50-100% over retail (or more). Down the road, they decide to sell this great investment and go to the local coin dealer who offers them grey sheet pricing. The TV buyer gets mad, calls the dealer a crook and stomps off firmly believing the whole industry is crooked.

Yeah, I know a sucker's born every minute and all that but folks, this is not good for numistmatics.

In addition, NGC gives me heartburn for participating in this madness. First Strikes are dead, so now they're Early Release. Yeah, I know they're a business trying to make a buck, but give me a break. There's such a thing as business ethics and frankly NGC doesn't have any.

    just my humble opinion,

    rono

Where is the fraud?...all I see is overpricing and where there is no set rule for coin pricing (just like coin grading) anyone can price a piece at anything they want---the hard part is finding people to buy them---but like rono said...

He knows how to make money in coins, that's for sure.

I wouldn't call this putting lipstick on a pig, either. These coins were never pigs, and are great, high-quality products. I'd say what you have is slick hype + ignorance + late night TV watcher impulsivity, and voilà ...you've got 5K+ for three 2006 NGC graded silver eagles. I don't know what else you can say about it. They probably offer great customer service, quick shipping, full refund, and no potential eBay style shenanigans. I'll bet we overpay all the time on stuff, sometimes hugely, particularly on high-end luxury items that you don't really need anyway. That's what this stuff is. It just seems more apparent and egregious here because you're relative insiders in the coin world, and you know how overpriced it really is. Ever try to buy a fancy watch or jewelry? Yikes :rolling:

Does NGC have a return policy similar to this?

Did for a while but I do not think a direct hit from a nuke would take them out .It comes on usually just before the shepards channel (religious) where i have seen it. Good place for it

Think he said the other night that they were in thier 20th year. Wonder if they will make a commemorative. Just think, coin vault in a reverse proof. Just takes my breath away.

They had a 6 hour special on Sunday... 6 hours of how an NGC MS69 1996 ASE is sold here for 299.99 so please buy our 2007 ASE MS69 for 39.99...
For that matter, I thought ASEs were to be sold after Jan 10... how you get them graded before a Jan 7th show??

They were selling in anticipation of getting the coins in, since they submit plenty of coins, they know that they'll get some MS-69's.

think some of these are the bullion coins that they get before the collectors. stuff only available to the dealers. Could be worng but do not think so. they take armored cars to the mint and buys like tons of these things at one time.

lots of dealers do pre sale, but not old chambers.

They actually had 10 of them up on the display with a clear closeup of 2007 written on both the label and coin.
Their sales pitch included "Get these before anyone else does!" - Think thats rather unfair!

Looks like that ban on 70's must also apply to the UNC eagle W coins, they haven't given out a 70 to any of those either. For all the bullion years they have only given out 12 MS70's [none after 1998].

    Howdy all,

I see shopathometv every morning here in mid-michigan.

This morning he was peddling NGC Cert 20 Anniversary ASE sets in 69 for 449 and in 70 for 4999.

Then he was selling 2007 AGE's NGC "EARLY RELEASES".

His explanation for them switching to ER from First Strike was because 'all kinds of folks were starting to use the FS designation and NGC wanted to differentiate themselves from the wantabees and crooks."

    yeah, right,

Maybe NGC realizes it doesn't have a prayer with their current lawsuit:

    Read about it here: http://www.lipcon.com/news_article84.shtml

One thing though is that when you look at the POP reports of NGC 70 grades against PCGS 70 grades, NGC "hands out" anywhere fro m 10 to 25 times MORE 70 grades for their submissions (same date/coin/mintmark) than PCGS.

I am sure the numismatic community is taking notice...
