    Hi ! :D

I have a carded 1943 Steel Wheat Back Penny (See photo attached.) My wife purchased this coin and gave it to me for my coin collection.

The card states "1943 Phil", but the coin is plain .........no mint mark.

Were the war time steel pennies all made at the Philadelphia mint, so they thought it unnecessary to include a mint mark ?

BTW, this coin is strongly attracted to a magnet, so I know it's steel, not copper or zinc.

    Thanks,

1943 cents were produced at the Philadelphia, Denver, and SanFrancisco mints. The P for the Philadelphia mint was not used on cent coins for many years.

I don't think it was until recently that they started putting mint marks on Philadelphia coins.

Truth. I don't know of any one cent pieces to ever contain a P mintmark. It was only recently that nickels->dollars got one.
