The dark grain area has an interesting blackend wheat grain appearance with a circle formation appearing on half of the Statue of Liberty, some of the state, over the initials of the artist and under the YORK in New York That has a some what normal silver look to it and the striations are hard to see in those areas when looking at the coin. The area under the RK of New York is the only area that looks like a normal clad

Does anyone know anything about the kind of washes and annealing they do on state quarters?

I have looked at your photos again and have to agree that you have something really special. I'd put it up for auction ASAP. It should bring upwards of seven figures.

Interesting i bet this piece could help figure out where the grain comes from since you can see the transition from grainy/striations to smooth normal clad under the RK of NEW YORK and everything inbetween. Are there any coin wisperers on this site that could give me a guess to how this happens? Roller marks? descalling brush? improper alloy? trowell marks from the trowel that smears the molten clad layer onto the coin stock before it is rolled up?

Missing Clad Nickel Layer! Also its slightly sintered/blackened in the area where its lacking the nickel clad layer!

Rolled thin clad layer? Thick layer in the core of the coin stock?

How hard could it possibly be for you to wrap your mind around the fact that all you have is a damaged coin?

As the OP said to me a month or two back... "You just got trolled!"

Some people like to argue just to see the reactions it gets.
