I am just curious. I do not collect modern US coins, but this one came very cheap in a lot of other US coins. Care to venture a grade based on those photos? Thanks!
I think this many be an AU example, i can't tell from the images but their many be a cleaning on this piece it is very hard to tell!!
Eduard, if you haven't already seen this, check out PCGS's Photograde pages. With the coin in hand you may be able to get a good estimate. http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/#/Walker/Grades and their Coinfacts page for 1947 Walkers http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/6630
I'll guess AU as well. It looks to have a bit of green tint in the image. PVC? Might need an acetone bath.
I'd like to see a larger/closer shot of the date. That feature on the left of the second 1 in the date makes me nervous -- it reminds me of a Chinese counterfeit 1920-S that nearly took me in. The counterfeit I got was attracted to a magnet. Have you checked this one?
I'll go with an AU. the early Walkers weren't struck wit as fine a detail as later years. might or might not be cleaned, hard to tell from the pic.
Thanks for al your replies. I realize this is a terrible picture, so it is difficult to judge what the condition is. I'll try to take better shots of the coin (just need to remember where i put it).
I agree... I would venture counterfeit from those images... and I say that with almost 100% certainty. I've seen a lot of fake walkers with identical features. This came "cheap" because that's what it is.. fake. Sorry.
Now my interest has been piqued. I'm usually petty good as spotting fakes, but will bow to superior knowledge. It was in a lot which contained an 1813 CBH, 1842 O (large date), 1854 O seated half, and a few more. It cost me around $ 15-20. I'll get a better picture and post soon as I can. Thanks for your opinions.
Hard to know a fake unless you see it in person. Photos can make a coin look different from what it is tangibly.
Of course it can... but it can't conceal the obvious; and in this case, the odds are overwhelming that this coin is a current Chinese copy.
