Hello all, I have a question. My grandmother recently died, and when we were going through her possessions, I found a couple of banks that she had apparently used to store her loose change. I'm not sure how long she had been doing this, but I found a couple of Bicentenial quarters in the bank that she had put all her quarters in, and about 3 dollars worth of 1965 and 1966 dimes in the other one. All the other coins were just 1972s and newer. Does anyone have any idea what the dimes would be worth? The are all in pretty good condition, I would say F or better. There was also a 1961 nickel in the bank with the dimes, it seems heavier than a 2006 nickel, does it have some silver in it? Thanks much!

The dimes are worth 10 cents, the quarters 25 cents. (not a big fan of Bicentennial quarters-- see a related thread elsewhere).

    The nickel is 5 cents.
    Use them at the store.
    Sorry, better luck next time.

    It's just pocket change really.

The 1976 Quarters are worth at least 29 cents each by some price guides. You might get 10 cents for the nickle. I would save them and spend the rest.

Go & buy some coins with the loose change, but keep the Drummer Boy Quarters though.Who knows, you may start collecting the U.S. Bicentenary $1/2 & $1 coins to make up sets so you could sell them online on eBay or Coinbay,or another auction website. Then that way,you will get some more money to buy more coins,or even some books & albums as well.

I beleive there are a few things to keep an eye out for in the modern change.

I beleive '83 no-P quarters and certain dimes bring a higher premium. 1970-S pennies also have a variety that has a premium.

I'm not really into post-1964 coinage, but i wish there was a list of key coins to keep an eye out that I could print out so when i look through modern change i would know what to pull out

Thanks for the advice, I also found a 1965 quarter. Is that worth anything at all?

The 1965 Quarter is worth its face value - 25c. U.S. In other words,go & spend it.

65 is the 1st clad year, so unless its MS I would say no.

Edit: according to my 01 red book, even if it where MS-65 it would still be worth only a buck

Nope, look for 1964 and older stuff.

1964 and older halfs, quarters and dimes were silver and worth more than face.

69-70 half dollars are 40% silver

    I also save pre-64 nickels.

For pennies, '58 and older is what you want.

Keeping the bicentennial stuff is up to you. I would since i never see them in circ anymore.

As for the rest of the stuff, aside from a modern rare variety, it's worth face
