Hello Guys/Gals. I am new to this forum but I found this quarter looking though my coins. Like the title states, it is a 1982 D error. You will see why I say error. I am comparing it to another quarter with the same design though it is 1967. Sorry for the back pic quality, I am using my ipad for the picture. If you can't see the picture that good, the error is that the 82 is missing the rim (don't know any coin terms). Thanks, Lockley16
Also a scan will help make sure to do a custom scan at 1200dpi or higher. The pictures are to blurry to say anything. dont forget to post pictures of bothsides of the coin.
but if BUncirclated is right and someone did ''remove the rim'' that would make it underweight aswell. so you need better pics or scans...
They didn't use much of a rim in 1982 and from the picture quality I'm not sure it's missing. Two things determine the amount of rim on a coin with one being the amount the planchet is upset and the other being the shape of the dies. Upsetting is a bunching up of metal along the edge of the planchet by running it between two rollers which reduce the diameter slightly. The only clad quarter with less of a rim is the 1984 and these are all beaten up in circulation because most had almost no rim to protect the coin. Removing rims is easily done with a grinder, file, or even a knife.
