What kind of "damage" is this.

In quotation marks, because I'm not sure what is going on.

Got my 1808 1/2d from Northeast Numismatics. Noticed "scrape" on the surface of the coin. Thought it was damage until I found another coin like it with the same damage in the same area.

I looked at many other examples of this coin and could not find another coin with the same type of "damage".

Looks like a die clash to me. Does the area correspond to design elements on the reverse?

It would help if you let us know which area of the coin you were talking about...

    And that's an 1806, not 08.

Do you have an image of the reverse?

Could be partial ghosting, this occured to a greater degree on Pennies and Halfpennies minted from 1911 through to 1927 workmanship of the pieces was so poor that it is not unknown to find specimens where the obverse design shows through on to the reverse. or vise versa.
However your coin was struck on a thicker copper planchet and not thin bronze.
    Just a thought
