Mr Cazador started it and since then I've been hooked between the spanish and the treasure below the waves!! I was going to purchase a pillar dollar but deciding to hold off for a bit. These coins were actually minted at Philadelphia to help the foreign struggle due to the war.Now I need a shipwreck coin from the 19th century to complete a 3 run set.
Very nice coin! Although not silver, the 1808 Admiral Gardner 10 Cash are probably the most affordable shipwreck coins of the 19th century. The SS Republic carried a large number of Seated Half Dollars, which can be had for a couple hundred bucks each or so. The SS Central America's cash box contained a fairly large number of silver dimes, which were in an anoxic environment away from water and exceptionally preserved. These start at several hundred $ and can go into four figures.
I was thinking about the SS New York and the spanish coinage it also had when it went down, the Central America coins are just to pricey as of now.
Love the coins, shipwreck paper, and certificate. Thanks for sharing those genuine slabs also @potty dollar 1878
Very. nice shipwreck coins. I have a number of them, all from different shipwrecks. They are fun to collect.
