We picked this guy up yesterday in a collection. I have properly dipped it (it had a spot from a pinhole in the 2x2) and it's on the way to PCGS.

What do you think it grades?

I know there are right and wrong ways to dipping, aside from the pinhole, had it not had that, would you have dipped it? Sometimes I don't understand dipping, for the most part I am told it damages the coin and a lot dealers won't touch them. Your Morgan looks wonderful, I am no grader but I will guess MS 64, cause of the marks on her face.

Is that gouge on her chin as bad as it looks in the photo? If so, I'm thinking MS63, tops.

It looks like it could be the VAM-4B.........CC over CC.

I gotta go with MS 62 on this one.

In hand it's not nearly as noticeable... my pictures tend to make marks look a little worse then they really are... which is fine when I'm selling... it makes for happy customers when they get the coin and it's nicer then the pics.

And it does appear to be the VAM-4B

I, too, have Morgan pics worse than the real thing.

Based on the pic, I say MS62.

I'd call it a 63, but with it being a CC, and a clean reverse, it'll probably go 64.

Hard to judge from the pictures. Are those rub marks all down the hair? If yes, AU55. If no, that's a very poor strike and I'd give it a MS62.

    No, That's a strike issue.

I'm going to say MS63...it might get a 64 as the TPGs like CC Morgan's. Either way, it's a beauty!

Dipping does remove a minor layer of the coin's surface...but that is where the oxide layer is with toning. If the coin has ugly or damaging toning...this removes it. The problem is, you don't know whats underneath for sure...so sometimes you uncover old cleanings and issues. If you over dip and remove too much of the surface...you start to lose luster and find the coin is very dull. That damages the coin.

That said, whenever you find a 100 year old silver coin that is blast white BU...it has been dipped 99.9% of the time.

I gotta say Genuine Unc Details. That gouge in the chin, that just flat crosses the line IMO.

It's no worse then about 1/3 of the marks seen on GSA coins. I'm very confident that they will holder it... You did know PCGS was encapsulating GSA coins in their original government holders these days didn't you?

Yeah, and no it wouldn't surprise me if it went either way given what it is. But for me, no way that coin should be graded.
