What happened to this coin? Mint-made error? Planchet?

    This coin is graded XF 40 by PCGS, so am to assume the canyon and stain are intrinsic to the coin? I find it kind of interesting, but I wonder if anyone knows what caused it? 1855 $20 Double Eagle obverse.JPG 1855 $20 Double Eagle, reverse.JPG

    Defective planchet much more common on earlier cons never seen a $20 with one was a void in the blank before it was struck
