Probably some type of acidic or caustic chemical reaction. The opening bid price is $15.35 ($9.95 plus $5.40 Priority Mail with required minimum insurance), and that's too rich for my blood in the case of an ugly coin I couldn't feel comfortable in displaying.
I agree with Roy, there appears to be something wrong with that coin. The spotting is not natural, possibly from acid or some kind of improper dipping. Pass.
