Nov 22 is the JFK anniversary I have been getting a few Kennedy half’s at the bank and putting some back into circulation. Thought I would post a few of my Kennedy's here. Here is one I found in circulation some time ago.
Which brings us to the question: Had there been a clad 1965 Franklin half, would we still be using them?
I just don't think so. But then you never really know since there were so many different reasons for going to clad coinage.
Since the coin was issued to honor the late president, I would think that any type of a commemorative would have been issued for the 5oth anniversary of his death and not the 50th anniversary of the coin. Additionally, since such a change usually requires congressional approval, I think folks would have heard about it by now as legislation would need to be introduced and then passed which takes a lot of time.
That was only for coins with a design less than 25 years old. With the JFK being 50, a different JFK design might be appropriate.
