Whilst travelling in the Baltic region, I stopped by a coin shop and purchased a fifty trillion Zimbabwe dollar note. On getting home, I noticed that this wasn't the record (there was a hundred trillion note issued before they gave up and went on a barter system)..... Anyway, I discovered that the largest denomination ever printed was a "Milliard Billion" Pengo note from Hungary, which in our numbers is a "Billion Trillion" (octillion). yeeach. Just wondering, Does anybody have one?
Wow interesting, I had heard of the Zimbabwean notes before but never the Hungarian one. Any idea when it was produced/amount printed?
I don't need a note to say I have that much money. I have 1 trillion US Dollars in my pocket right now. See?
Well, I don't own any high denomination banknotes, but how about a 20 billion mark German postage stamp? And you thought USPS was pricey. Of course, your 50 trillion dollar note could buy a whole sheet of these.
Or started using the US dollar or the ZA rand ... it all depends on what means of payment one has access to. Also, while this does not affect the number of zeros, we should keep in mind that the "original" Zimbabwe dollar (ZWD) was replaced by the ZWN which was replaced by the ZWR which was replaced by the ZWL. And with every redenomination, a couple of zeros were removed without really "fixing" anything. ... with the emphasis on "printed". That 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 pengő note was produced in mid-1946 but never issued. (The "B" in B-Pengő indicates the billion.) But one tenth of that amount still looks impressive - and that actually circulated. Christian
Papers probably worth more than the bill they should print them on toilet paper so at least they have some value
