You made out like a bandit. Only 6,000 minted that year. That coin could easily sell for between $20-$30 in what appears to (me) be MS-63 condition.

I must respectfully disagree, sir, as a close look at the obverse should show that this specimen has issues. I also do not believe this was a particularly good or great deal, but was certainly fair.

You talkin' the scratches on the face Books? None of these issues were ever treated with any kindness by the mint........

I agree. To me, it looks like the marks on the obverse are from a cleaning, and not any kind of mint handling issues. Still a fair price at $10.

Very good deal. Ones in much worse shape sell for 14 and up on e-bay all the time. Not a steal, but nicely done.

Yes, sir, but even with that understanding, and after manipulating the photos prior to posting, I believe this example displays mistreatment above and beyond what may have happened at the mint.

My response was an honest assessment based on both observed and personal experience; nothing less and nothing more.

If you believe such a coin is a great buy at 35%+ above melt, that's fine and I respect your opinion, but this is not an unheard of price for what appears to be a problem specimen. Considering the BTW is most often collected as a type (as opposed to by date), are overall very common, and can he had in nice, original, and collectible grades for very modest prices, what the OP paid for a problem example was fair, but not spectacular.

Well sirs, in my opinion the coin has not been cleaned (harshly) and we shall have to agree to disagree........:)

I do see some marks on the obverse that concern me, but the reverse looks great. I'd want to examine it in hand...even if worse case I think $10 was at least a fair deal.

Yes as stated it is at least worth what he paid. It is for sure cleaned !! These are 2 factors we can all agree on !!

with a mintage of six thousand, even cleaned, which it isn't, it's worth more than a thousand bucks. This is the rarest circulation coin ever minted after 1912.

What makes you think it isnt cleaned you can clearly see the scratches from rubbing across the whole coin ???

Also it is not a circulation coin it is a commemorative, and the 5 dollars gold 1997 MS Jackie Robinson commemorative had only a mintage of 5,174.

Not sure where you are getting the mintage of 6,000...this is is definitely not a rare coin by any means. Care to share your source?
