I see no reason that he should not be able to double. After all, no one who knows these coins will be shopping at that store so his market will be people with more money than sense who will be dazzled by the certified gold that should be in a museum so it must be priceless. They will also be getting a souvenir from the TV show. If David Vagi can get $1000, Pawn Stars should get a premium that makes the CNG level bump look paltry. After all, Victor England is not a TV star. A question: If you could own a coin that had been featured on TV, would you consider that a bonus? Some would. The Pawn Stars should get a slab not only grading the coin but stating 'as seen on TV'. I suspect most items they are shown buying get sold to someone who saw it on TV.
Shhh..PCGS or NGC will see this and have to create one and charge $40 for the privlage on top of their other endless fees.
I don't like all these slab varieties but hey it's just giving people what they're asking. If I were a TPG I would let customers design their label online and write whatever on it (except for the grade ).
Thanks, but I wasn't asking how much Rick paid for it or how much Vagi said it was worth. That was already posted. I was wondering how much Rick thought it was worth. Thanks for trying to help though. Thanks
"Pawn Stars" Byzantine gold coin screen prints: Episode title "Cold Hard Cash", first broadcast on the History Channel on November 14, 2013. The coin was identified by David Vagi of NGC Ancients as a coin of Emperor Constantine IX, AD 1033-1055. The closest one I can find on Wildwinds is SB 1829. Constantine IX, Monomachus, 1042-1055, AV Histamenon Nomisma, Constantinople http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/byz/constantine_IX/t.html
Thanks WB2. I was unable to watch the episode and was wondering just wha the coin might look like. Not in the best of shape for this particular coin I don't think.
