I walked into a local bank that has a Coin Machine (that I don't have an account with) and asked if I could purchase a filled bag of coins that was pulled from the machine. The teller said "no problem". I asked for a $1000 dime bag but she said that she didn't have one. I then asked for a $1000 quarter bag. She gladly sold it to me.

I just got through with the bag and wasn't expecting much...I was hoping to fill a few of my National Landmark holes and I did. I found two that I needed. However, I also found the following:

    1964 penny
    1962D penny (with a bandaid on it...ewwww!)
    1987D Quarter (well worn)
    2006 South Dakota Quarter (worn)

    ...AND...to my surprise...

What is special about this quarter?

Wow, what a find! It's a shame that these beautiful quarters wore so badly. I may get flamed, but these would have worn so much better if they were cupronickel clad.

fridays finds out of $13.50 in halves and $11 in large dollars: 14 x 40% and a 1926-s peace dollar! the teller says she has another $100 in halves in the vault that i can pick up tuesday (the manager gets off at noon every other day and i cant get to the bank until 2:30). i have a good feeling about these, because they were all deposited by the same person and the newest out of the halves that i searched was 1976, and over half of them were silver

2 boxes in halves. first time doing halves in over 3 months.
    Box 1: 1x1967
    Box 2: skunked.
Loomis boxes always yield little at best, they usually fail to yield at all.

I used to be a very frequent poster to this thread. I was extremely successful at finding silver for a period of about 2.5 to 3 years. Then, it went dry in my area...too many other searchers and too many of them greedy. I went from 3 boxes a week to 1 every two weeks to 1 every two months. I haven't posted in this thread for probably a year or so. My last hundred boxes of halves averaged only 1 silver per with sooooo many skunks. Then, my laptop was stolen from my car while at a bank with all my stats of my finds 11 months ago. I have probably only found 10 or so 40%ers, a couple of Roosies and a couple of war nicks in the last year....but I haven't been searching much, as I said.

Today, on the way to work, I picked up my first box of halves in about 3 months. Ender staring back at me and I opened that roll first. 7 silvers. I opened half the box while driving to work/stopped at lights/in the parking lot at work. I found 18 90%ers including WL and Bens, and 44 40%ers. I looked at the 2nd half and see 2 Kenders and 2 Benders. I can't concentrate in the office today, LOL. Most fun I've had in a long while. Final numbers and picks tonight. I haven't had a big find in well over a year and this may be my biggest box ever (my previous record was 89 silvers).

    Can you say MONSTER BOX!!!!!!

My mother in law has the same coin. Here is some info on it.

This Gela tetradrachm has been the subject of more inquiries to me than any other 'coin' since I have started this site. This particular copy was produced as an advertisement for a book on Ancient Greece and was sent to thousands of addresses glued to a paper ad. My memory tells me that this was a Reader's Digest book but the correctness of this memory and the date will require confirmation. Please help if you recall this promotion or bought the book they advertised. (Thanks to the friend who sent me a picture of two of these glued to a paper calling them 'golden coins' but not identifying the book. I still need help here.) The copy is clearly stamped 'copy' but many I have seen have been scraped to remove these recessed letters. The item was produced by casting and no effort was made to remove the seams along the edges where the two halves of the mold were joined. Our illustration includes edge images of two examples. The characteristic loss of sharpness and bubbled surface of cast fakes are clear on these coins. About the thickness and diameter of a US quarter, these copies are much too thin for the Gela coins they imitate. The pot metal castings were treated to produce a dark patina. Since the item was clearly marked and circulated as a copy, there can be no fault found with the publisher. Unfortunately, a percentage of these found their way into hands of persons with larceny in mind. They are often seen for sale in antique shops

    WOW.

The 2nd half was even better. A bunch of enders including 3 Bens.

By FAR my biggest box ever. Here are the totals for this monster box:

    124 40% Kennedy halves

    48 90% Halves
    - 27 1964 Kennedys
    - 15 Franklins
    - 6 Walking Liberties (2 dateless)

172 total silver halves (my previous best was 89 2.5 years ago).
    35.7+ oz of silver

I'm stunned....and smiling (as you can imagine)

40%ers to the left in stacks of 20 coins (in first pic), then 1964s, then Franklins, then WLs
