Im going to a coin show next weekend and I can only make it one day. What would be the better choice as far as number of dealers? I can either go Saturday after lunch or Sunday morning after the show opens. This is a relitively small show. From past shows it seems as if there are more dealers there on Saturday, but better deals can be had on Sunday. Any expertise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
If you go on Sunday there's a chance that you'll find half the tables empty. That depends upon whether it's a local show or not. If it's a local show then most dealers stick around. But at shows where many dealers had to travel a fair distance that's where you'd find many empty tables. They want to be home so they can open shop on Monday morning.
Most of the really good coins will trade hands before the public enters. The dealers do all their trading prior to opening. If you are looking for common items the second day is not bad. If a dealer had a bad show you might get some deals. If you are looking for rare items, be there at the open.
Good replies. Thanks. This is a local coin show in New Orleans. I've been to this show a few times and most of the dealers are local. Its a smaller show.
I agree with jaxcollector, every day is a good day. We have had this discussion here before and on every other coin board I know of. Some will say the first moment the show opens is the best because that is when the dealers have inventory and are looking to make sales. Others will say the last moment before closing because that is when the dealers have inventory and are looking to make sales. "Dealers" are not a homogenous package of factory-made parts. Each one has their own needs; and those needs change constantly. The best time to be at a show is when you are there. Enjoy it!
Actually, if you're attending a 'major coin show' the first day is the best. It gives you the opportunity to run around and collect all the 'freebie' stuff which doesn't last long. The second day is the day to get serious about collecting endeavors.......
There is even a fourth day like the FUN Show in Florida or the Whitman Show in Baltimore. There are others besides.
