Is this worth anything?

I have a peace dollar. I know it's authentic, because I've compared it with sealed peace dollars and unsealed peace dollars. But this one has an error. Where the date is, it looks like 19.. Ok, so where those two dots are, imagine a raindrop hitting a puddle, and the ripple effect that it has. Well, where those two dots are are where those two "raindrop ripple effect" circled are....So what does this mean? What type of error is it?

It would be extremely helpful if you could post a pic of this coin. But there a few things it might be. It could be a struck through error - where the die was clogged with grease and the last 2 digits of the date did not come through. This would be my first guess.

But it also might be an altered coin. Sometimes when a less than scrupulous person wishes to alter a coin they will remove one or more digits of the date from coin A and place them on coin B in order to alter that date and thus make coin B more valuable. Your coin could possibly be either of these - A - a coin with date digits removed and later discarded. Or B - a coin on which altering was attempted but it didn't work so the coin was discarded.

In either case - the coin has no particular value.

But I don't understand why it wouldn't. Hmm....I'll try and post a pic in a bit.

If altered, and I'm leaning toward this,it would only have value for it'sd Silver content. (No numismatic value at all.) It is possibly a filled die error but considering the discription,it sounds like the numbers were ground off by whizzing (like a drummel moto tool.) To have a real premium,a filled die error must have the lettering completely missing and not show any sign of where the missing letters were.Your coin obviously does show some evidence of tampering. Of course, this is just a guess, the photo will certainly help. ~ Jim
