Hello all: Has anyone used - www.teletrade.com/ . Would love to know users experience selling here. If there are any that have sold via this site or if others have recommendations. Thanks,
What kind of coins are you trying to sell? I think if we knew what you were trying to sell, it would help determine if you should go to one of the bigger auction houses. I haven't sold at any auction houses; however, I've purchased from Teletrade. I had a good buying experience and look at there site from time to time. The auction house I buy from most of the time is Heritage Auctions. They usually have high quality coins all the time; therefore, whenever I'm looking for a coin, I start there. I've heard good things from people who have sold at Great Collections. They're relatively new. Their terms are supposed to be favorable to the sellers. I've bought quite a few coins from their site too. Their customer service is first class. Turn around time is very fast too.
I have large range of coins - about $3000 face of ungraded (currently) silver - mostly from 1870s-1947. There are several 1936D Washington Quarters that may grade out as MS62-64, 1935D Washington 25 cents similarly. Then there are 1935D and 1936D 50 cent Walking Liberty and Mercury dimes that are similar. Most others are more heavily circulated. I am certainly considering Heritage and am selling a lot myself.
If you don't want to get the coins graded, why not take good pictures of the coins and try to sell them here or the NGC/PCGS market places? That way, you don't have to spend the money on grading services and you'll get a fair price. edited for grammar.
What is the NGC/PCGS market places. Great collections looks real good from their web site. Some coins are definitely worth grading before selling, others are ideal for individual collectors to fill holes in their collections, others will likely be bullion when silver is much higher.
This site has an area where you can sell your coins or currency in the Advertising section. Both NGC and PCGS have message boards with "marketplace" threads where you can also sell your coins. If you want to be successful you MUST have good pictures of each coin either posted or available to send to someone who asks. Otherwise, don't expect to get fair value. These are seasoned collectors/numismatists with a lot of experience and knowledge.
TeleTrade has been around forever and is reputable. However, they aren't for everyone. Heritage requires, if I recall correctly, at least about $5K per consignment though they will buy raw coins directly. If you are not well versed in grading then be very careful.
