Hello friends, as many may remember if you dont you can look back at the topic i wrote in about a paypal dispute i had. In this dispute what happened was someone purchased items off me in a BIN auction on ebay, 4 days later i recieved notification that the money had been taking out of my account because of fraudulent use of the credit card that paid me.Obviously not my fault and obviously i had posted the items before this money was withdrawn. The same problem occured to about 8 over people on the same day.An obvious fraud. here is the email that they just sent me, well they sent me 4 identical emails becuase it was 4 of the same item the scammer purchased off me. Dear kevin mulligan, Recently, you were notified that PayPal received a chargeback from a buyer's credit card issuer involving unauthorized funds. Details of the transaction are as follows: OP posted someone's personal contact info without their permission. Because the buyer's credit card issuer has returned the funds to the card owner, the amount of the above-referenced transaction has been debited from your PayPal Account. PayPal has been charged a fee from the buyer's credit card company, and a result we have had to assess your PayPal Account a chargeback settlement fee of 7.00 GBP. This transaction was reversed for the following reason(s): - We did not receive tracking information. - We did not receive a reply to our request for information within the required time period. Using the information you provided, PayPal is submitting a dispute with the buyer's card issuer to contest the chargeback. There is no guarantee that the dispute will be successful; however, if the dispute is won, you will receive a credit to your account for the amount of the chargeback. Disputing a chargeback with a credit card issuer is a lengthy process, so please allow 75 days for the completion of this process. If you have not already received your merchandise from the buyer and would like the merchandise returned to you, we encourage you to contact the buyer directly to arrange for the merchandise return. If this reversal has made your account balance negative, you can reimburse PayPal by adding funds to your account or by sending a cheque to the following address: PayPal Attn: Accounting Department P.O. Box 45950 Omaha, NE 68145-0950 United States This withholding is outlined in our Terms of Use Policy. Our Seller Protection Policy covers sellers against chargebacks resulting from a buyer's unauthorised use of a credit card and false claims of non-delivery of goods. In the future, you can protect yourself against chargebacks by following the conditions of our Seller Protection Policy. Now can you just credit that, not only has someone got my goods, with a fraudulent credit card , and my money took away. But for this privledge they have now debited my account for 7 pounds x4, to pay for the fees the credit card company give them for the fraudulent card. Talk about adding insult to me no more paypal for me. Highly inflamatory rhetoric is not acceptable on this forum sellers protection dont exist at all they even charge you for getting robbed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Exactly why I wont pay by Pay pal or sell using pay pal. Never trusted it never will . Cash in hand before I ship no exceptions.
OUCH! They know how to add insult to injury. I'd be more than a little teed off also. How much did you lose on the transaction in question?
Highlander, I know your very, very angry about this, but did you ship to a confirmed address? If it wasn't, then I'm afraid you are not going to have a leg to stand on (and you probably won't be able to reach the recipient of the merchandise, either.) Paypal can be a very useful tool but can also turn on you and bite you in the a** if you don't follow their seller protection policies. I feel really bad for you and I know of a number of other sellers who have ended up in this same situation. These frequency of these incidents has definitely increased since eBay bought Paypal.
Did you send before or after you found out it was a bad address? BTW You might want to to delete some of the info in the email you posted just so it can't get to the wrong place! Speedy
This is a shock to me.. I was trusting the paypal fully. Now, I'll be a bit cautious. Thanx for the tip.
Highander: Paypal has an 800 number, why not call them and talk it out. There has to be some remedy. Also, there is always the postal authorities, assuming that you mailed the package, for postal fraud.
Wait just a darn minute. Am I reading correctly, that because some jerk scammed YOU, and had a chargeback, that paypal is charging you 7 pounds? Why aren't the charging the buyer 7 pounds? GRRRRR I freaking hate paypal.
Deal with paypal all the time and so far ("knock on wood") I haven't had any problems. I always check to see if the transaction has been completed before shipping in my paypal account page, but I don't know if that's all I should be doing. I got ripped off in a major way about 2 years ago with a personal check purchase but so far paypal has been handy to use. Just curious though, did you check your account page and see if the transaction had been completed? I know it makes you sick to have someone steal from you and the bottom line is, there's probably nothing that you can really do. If the amount was large enough, isn't there some sort of "paypal protection plan" that can help you out? Or is that just e-bay blowing smoke.? I know I was a victim of an obvious fraud, along with several other people and I did get a percentage of compensation from e-bay which took some of the sting out of the whole experience. I had the guys phone number, address and even spoke to him on the phone a couple of times and no luck. The local police suggested the postal fraud route and I filed a complaint but that came up empty in the long run as well.
Most sellers never read PayPals fine print and don't know what they are responsible for. They tell you up front you are responsible for tracking the item and for insuring it. I never pay for insurance when I buy because it is a waste of money when the seller is responsible that the item gets to me. If you don't sell it's a good system. It also has saved me a lot of money. I just too bad that there are those dishonest people out there that have to rip others off. Doesn't say a lot about our society or morals. 1991retiredarmy
