I bought this nickel on teletrade a few weeks back. http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2295&lot=1170 Was disappointed at first because I only bid on it to make my order over $100.00 to get the free S&H Teletrade was offering on invoices over a $100.00 in December. Well I was out bid on the higher dollar coin and was stuck with two $6 coins and ended up paying more in fees than for the bid price of the coins :headbang: Well it works out to about $15.00 per coin after fees and S&H and by the pics I thought they may be full step coins which this one is as close as they get, guess the cut below the third pillar is what stopped from being designated FS. Anyway to make a long story short looking at this coin it is either a D/s or RPM#3? Cherrypickers 4th edition lists it as FS-032.9 (Breen #2736) and states that Breen lists is as a D/S with plenty of specialist who disagree and CONECA list it as RMP#3. Cherrypickers has a price of $575 (Actual Sale) in MS65 and Wexler in the Jefferson Nickel RPM Book lists it for $10.00 in MS65. What do my fellow nickel junkies here think?
I realize this! I didn't buy this thinking it was a variety? Anyway, the picture of the mintmark is in either reference I quoted (Cherrypickers 4th edition or The Jefferson Nickel RPM Book)
I had to blow the pic up 200% and then look at it with a magnifying glass, but I think I can see the second D on the bottom. You could send it to NGC for variety attribution and see what they think.
I guess I made this a little confusing because I myself am confused by all the confusion? This coin is listed as: FS-032.9 OMM? Breen #2736 D/S CONECA RPM#3 It's all the same coin but the "experts" disagree as to what it actually is? Here is a picture from Cherrypicker's. I was just wondering what others think about it?
This is one of those coins that the "experts" don't agree on and probably never will. I have one of these I bought as an rpm and Personally that is what I think it is. But I am no expert by any means. I just can't see the S. However it is a Top 100 variety and for $15 bucks I think you got a Great Deal.:thumb:
I thought you were asking our opinions as to whether or not we thought the coin in question was indeed the variety or not. I realize that you think it is, my point was that you need to have it confirmed.
The 'experts' may not agree, but then they can be pretty dense when they make up their minds. I happen to agree that it is a D/S. The slash thru the middle of the D is confirmation for me.
