This coin is now available worldwide! Previously only available for UK collectors the Royal Mint has decided to put it up for sale for everyone else. I do believe that they will be cheaper at around £16.67? because international buyers will not have to pay the 20% VAT. My missus purchased one 2 weeks after me and got hers in the post 2 weeks ago. I am still waiting on my three
We both still live with our parents. I used the term missus to describe a long-term partner rather than a wife. Anyhoo... I asked someone at the Royal Mint if this programme would continue if silver rose to the heights seen in 2012. This was their response... "The Royal Mint We can't give you a definitive answer on that, Edward, it depends on too many other factors. Good point, though, and thanks for commenting, it's always welcomed. " I personally think that the programme would be put on hiatus if silver rose too high.
Thanks just ordered 3 http://www.royalmint.com/shop/UK_2013_20_pound_for_20_pound_Fine_Silver_Coin_George_and_the_Dragon
I just tried to order a £20 coin and it was full price on the Royal Mint website. There was £12.50 in shipping, as well. It would be approximately US$56.oo to make a direct purchase from the Royal Mint.
Asked my local coin dealer today what he thought of the £20 for £20 scheme. He said he hated them because there was no money to be had on them from his point of view. He said as a dealer he couldn't buy them for less and nor could he sell them for more. I asked how much he would pay if I were to trade one in... he said '£7.50, because that's how much silver is in them'. I then asked him why he swaps £5 coins for £5 instead of 12 pence, because that's all the metal is worth in them. He said something along the lines of 'banks accept £5 coins but they wont accept these'.
I got my 3 the other day, I`ve kept one and removed it from the mint packaging so I can store it in my Lindner tray. I put the other 2 up on eBay, if they sell then I recoup all my outlay and get a small profit. If they don`t sell then I still have them for another day. I notice already one was listed in the US for $500 and several in the UK at just short of £200. My photo.
... is invisible. Well, it does not show here; all I see right now is a "moved or deleted" alert from Photobucket. Christian
Here is a quick youtube video I made. So you get an idea of what they look like in the hand. Also a photo I took of a coin comparing the thickness to that of a one pound coin.
I ordered my 3. I figured for nearly $20 shipping, I'd max out the number of coins. One for me, two for sale...
