This type has been on my list for a little while and I got a decent example in one of this week's many auctions. Seller's pics... it will be weeks before I get my hands on it. Looks like it needs some VerdiCare. I'd like to find an even better example someday but this one isn't too bad ATTICA, Eleusis 360-330 BC AE16 Obv: Triptolemos, seated left in a winged chariot drawn by two snakes Rev: Pig standing right on mystic staff, (bucranium below?) Ref: SNG Cop 415 Triptolemos info from Encyclopedia Mythica (more at link)
Queen of the Pigs, huh? Not a particularly flattering title That's OK though. I have more little piggies coming my way so the distinction may prove correct
Good thing I already ate or I would have made some sort of Bacon chicken and mayo sandwich comment. Very Nice Coin!
This coin finally arrived today. Auction was September 26th. I took new pictures but they're not substantially better than the seller's photo, just higher resolution. Taking good pictures is always a work in progress. This one needs more work. This ups my snake tally I should hunt for some interesting Salus coins too.
I was rummaging around my photos and came across these. Given the bacon comments above, I thought some of you might enjoy them. 2010-- I took two weeks off and flew around the States visiting old friends. This stop was in Dallas, a 24 hour visit which began at the supermarket. We decided to go whole-hog on a cooking showdown (my old high school friend likes to cook). BaconFest 2010! Iron Chef, Bacon Edition. Here are my entries. 1. Polenta with Bacon Gorgonzola Rosemary sauce. Don't remember what that meat was. Smoked chicken, maybe. 2. Bacon-wrapped Dried Plums (yeah, prunes, but 'dried plums' sounds more delicious) stuffed with Parmigiano Reggiano 3. Bacon, Shrimp, Jalepeno, and Cream Cheese Wantons with Bacon Ponzu Dipping Sauce. Fried in bacon fat, of course. (fabulous!) 4. Bacon Parmigiano Potato Gratin 5. and for dessert... BACON S'MORES! I'm telling you, these things were AWESOME! I've made them many times since. 6. BaconFest, the morning after.
Awesome ... TIF, you sound like a fun time!! => man, one of these days I'm gonna have to pack-up Granny and Jethro and make a road-trip down to Bacontown!! Sidenote => ummm, are those wild lynx roaming your kitchen?!! (even better!!)
Not my kitchen, not my cats. But yes, they are some type of breed not far removed from a small wild cat. Can't remember what, exactly. Maybe a breed called Savannah, a cross between a domestic cat and African serval. Very big felines, not your usual cuddly kitty. Rather aloof. Gorgeous, but I'd rather have a mixed breed cat that purrs and plays. And preferably one too fat to leap onto countertops
