Do you think that "Made In Shanghai, China" is stamped on the edge of the coin???? The Other, Other Frank
I have a notion to use the 'ask seller a question' button , and say that I know who you are and I saw what you did;. Is that harassment? Or would it be harassment if we all did it?
I did do this. I figure he can't do anything, as if he leaves a negative, I will leave a giant negative indicating he sells counterfeit coins, which is a violation of ebay rules. encil:
Hey Big Z, block him as a bidder on your blocked bidder list. I've heard someone can't leave FB if they are in blocked status. Good Luck Buddy Ben
lol, that's pretty good. With the job change, I see photos of this kind of stuff being offered to us to auction on a routine basis. I had to tell a guy yesterday that his collection of fakes wasn't worth anything. Oh well it's offset by the fact that I spent a solid hour last month with this coin sitting on my desk. (There are definately some perks to working here, lol ) P.S. It actually looks way better in person than in those photos.
Howdy Cave Troll!....its great to see you around!...how is the wife? What a coin to be able to see much less hold!!! Wish I would have been there to see it Speedy
Has anything come of this yet Zaneman. You did a brave thing putting your feedback on the line for the betterment of the hobby! As The Cave Troll said " I see photos of this kind of stuff being offered to us to auction on a routine basis. I had to tell a guy yesterday that his collection of fakes wasn't worth anything." This could become pandemic. I wonder if the Secret Service should not have an interest in this activity? And US Customs? Granted the coins are old but they are still a counterfeit of a US Treasury obligation.
thanks, I am doing well and the wife and new baby too. I'm hoping to have internet at my apt here in the next month or so, which will allow me to be on here a little more often.
I don't think the seller plans on doing anything, but Ebay issued me a warning for "transaction interference" I give ebay 2 thumbs down on this one.
Zane: That was probably becasue of your e-mail alerting the seller that youhad no intention of completeing the transaction. You should alert them (EBAY) that you are notifying the FBI that the seller is knowingly using the US mail to transport counterfeit goods! And that Ebay is acting in concert with them-- that may wake them up. Hey, Roy, what do you think ! Do you think that he is on solid ground? {This is only my opinion and others may disagree, that is free will.} A solid thumbs down on Ebay!
You have the credentials of being in the business to spot counterfeits. This person may be the head of a counterfeit ring or at least an importer of counterfeit coins. After being notified this would seem to make eBay an accomplice. A phone call to the Secret Service would seem in order. The worst they could do is tell you they do not care. I would think at the very least the SS would have the obligation to confiscate these goods. I remember circa 2000 when eBay made a big thing out of hiring a US Attorney away from the Federal Government to head up their legal department. He would/should know right from wrong. Too bad you take a pounding from eBay for saving someone $2500.00 .
The seller has not relisted the item, which seems like a step in the right direction. I looked through his negatives, and they are riddled with people who received counterfeit coins.
One on the UK site as well. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1804-american-silver-dollar_W0QQitemZ200066564394QQihZ010QQcategoryZ523QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem No one bidding on it though.:smile
