1834 1/2 Cent

Discussion in 'US Coins Forum' started by William DeBerry, Nov 3, 2013.

  1. I have decided to start on a set of Half Cents. Got this off of Ebay this morning. Should be here in a few days. These are the seller's pics, but what do you think? How much would you pay and is it in decent shape? I know there is a rim nick at about 5:30, but other than that, are there anymore problems? I liked it so I will be satisfied with it either way, but I always like to hear from people 'in the know'. Thank in advance.

Very nice half cent i would say it is a vf making it worth in the 65-70 dollar range if slabbed mabye 80 dollars !! Nice pick up by the way

  5. Thanks. Got it for 69.99 w/ free shipping. I was worried it was a little high but I really liked it for my first one so I went for it.

    Nice Vf 20+ 1834 1/2 cent.
Doing a set can be costly if you try to get all the die variety known in the set.

  7. I am just going for a Classic Head set right now. 1809-1835 in VF minus the 1811 and 1831. Maybe acquire those later on but right now a little outside the reach of my coin budget.

I'm not tring to start a fight, just tring to make sure somebody on ebay isn't tring to sell a fake to you, here some photos from pcgs, look at you eye, ear, yours looks a lot difference, then pcgs, hopefully I'm wrong, just don't want you to be taken advantage of, thats all 26730463_33874885_max-horz.jpg

Rick, the coin you show looks to be MS R/B. The OP's coin is circulated. Devices can start to look different once a bit of wear is introduced.

The coin looks fine to me, and Ch VF. I went on a crazy half cent binge about 8 months ago, and picked up a whole bunch in VF-AU for very reasonable prices on eBay. Nice thing about the H1C is that it is a less collected series - making prices reasonable despite low mintages. Enjoy collecting them, and have fun with the varieties!

  10. Rick, thanks for looking out. Hopefully it is not a fake, but once I have it in hand I will have it checked out. I am confident it is not though, based on the responses I have seen. Thanks again everyone for the comments. I will take my own pics once I have it in hand and post them up in this thread.

I like your coin William and think you did okay on the price. I always had a soft spot for the "Little Sisters". Had a nice collection of them at one time.
