No way to tell. It's a grease filled die and I see no indication of what the number should have been.

Bad thing is That's the only wheat cent I have Left. I sold My coin collection , Everything's went to KY.. 30Lb Of coins! But I am making a large perches today from a 85 year old man thats Been saving coins since he was a child. And he says He has about 50000 wheat cents Thats been in the glass water jug for the past 40+ years. This Is going to be fun

1947. I think I can make out the angle where horizontal and vertical come together.

I can also see where there may be a 7 , But if you take a 1943s cent and compare 194 and the s the spacing Is right On And if you look at the missing digit It has the upper start of a 3 and the same tell as the three can you see that?

I see, more faintly than the corner of a seven, the area you are saying is a three. Here is why I don't believe that is what it is:

    1. I see more clearly the corner of a '7'

    2. If it was a three, the center is too pointy; the font is wrong and doesn't match the style 3 they used in 1943

    3. If it was a three, it is higher than it should be.

    4. If it was a three, and not magnetic as you say, it would be one of THE legendary coins of the U.S., with an error on it. The odds of that are super slim; not impossible, but super duper slim.

I don't think you will get anyone, ever, to agree it is a 1943 copper.

You could say it was that, but then again I've gone into pawn shops where they were selling a little one-armed-bandit style 5 cent slot machine with a sign taped on saying "Owned By Elvis!" Which is to say, without some kind of verification proving it is what you claim it to be, you MAY be able to find a sucker, but it will never command the premium it would with proper proof.

    Wrong.

The question was " Whats the last number of the year 194?"

    The answer is 4.

    That is all.

Maybe It's A three maybe not, It sure Looks close to me. I can't say what it is till I get . It looked at . I have found many error's in my life. And yes I Am a member of a few coin grading company's , I may look in to it further down the road. I have no reason to sell the coin at this time.

Likely a grease-filled die, try looking at it with light at different angles...I find that sometimes helps in determining the digit.

I don't think the same principle applies, as the digit was never fully struck on this coin, unlike a buffalo nickel where the dateless ones are just a result of circulation (I think).

Is there a sight to compare the dies used in 1943 s? I could compare 1940-1949

Or could NGC Determine the year?

    You know this how?

It's called "looking at the picture".

To my eyes it is a struck through grease error, meaning that there was debris trapped in the die and prevent a full strike of that digit. If you're wondering how I came to that conclusion, it is just an opinion based on my knowledge of errors and the minting process. Capiche? :)

Or is it that you see something in the photo that suggests otherwise?

I am amazed that just from the photo you have undoubtedly eliminated any and all other possibilities.
"" as the digit was never fully struck on this coin"" is certainly a possibility but not a certainty.

That statement makes an indefensible and unprovable claim.

I would suggest taking the sort of language in the after thought of the quoted post "To my eyes " and going with that up front.

    That is all.

Hmmm...I think you're jumping to some conclusions here. I never said that all other possibilities were eliminated...in fact, if you read post 12, I say likely a grease-filled die, and post 14 is referencing the differences between a struck-through grease (if it occurred on this coin) and your average buffalo nickel. Doesn't take much thought to connect the two posts. Of course, it's all semantics and doesn't really help anyone out here.

But I digress, we are running off-topic again...no need to continue along this tangent. :)
