This is my setup. A Canon digital SLR on a tripod. The coin is on a dowel, which is placed through black velvet all within a light tent. Illumination is by a single daylight bulb. Martin
Holy crap, Martin ... => that tent is awesome!! (full points) Man, I finally managed to find my camera, so I've been snapping a few shots of my coins and I decided to show you fellas the inner sanctum of the stevex6 coin-nest!! (sadly, it is very, very far from high-tech impressive ... but who cares ... enjoy, brothers!!)
USB microscope, hum...seems high tech. For someone so 'random' you strike me as someone rather neat and organized. I guess that's just steveX6 keeping us guessing... Great set ups all. I am always looking to improve.
And I pictured Martin as being more organized-- instead there are to-be-shot coins strewn all over the place!
It is a good job you can't see the rest of the room..... I am in the process of trying to sort through the older coins in my collection in order to trim it right down, which will allow me to buy new stuff. This means there are literally hundreds of coins strewn across various parts of the room. Every surface, including the floor is being used. I simply have too many coins to go through to be organised, at least that is my excuse. What you see in the light box is just a few recent purchases. They have all been photographed but haven't been added into the albums yet. This is my study and the way I use this room really frustrates my wife.....
ahaha ... same here, Martin => but to get around this lil' problem, I have given the remainder of the house to my wife!!
SIDE-NOTE => my exercise bike is hooked-up to my computer through an ultra-cool program called computrainer ... so if I spin my computer monitor around, I can choose multiple cycle-tracks from around the world and/or build my own track and then ride and record my time, etc ......... then, when I want a good workout, I can call-up one of my old races and try to beat my best time (it shows my "live" bike-racer, plus it shows a ghost-version of my best time) => it is pretty cool for a dude that loves riding bikes, but is unfortunately stuck in the middle of a deep-freeze for 1/2 of the year!! ... sorry to derail the thread, but when I saw my photo (above) and noticed the bike in the background, I figured that an explanation of its presence was required.
That's pretty cool. I should hook up my computer to a bike in such a way as to require peddling to power the computer. Spending too much time sitting, it's taking a toll...
