Wondering if anyone has seen auction results or know the ballpark value of a 1974-d, missing clad both sides, all copper dime. With my limited knowledge, grade would be VF+ or better, certainly has seen little circulation and is flat and dull in appearance. A link to any 1970's example, would be fine. Missing clad on one side cent values appear to be $50 - $100 and I found several of those. Found while roll searching pennies last winter, before the Canadian cent went out of circulation and boxes were still available. No images available as of yet. I'm asking because I am debating on whether to send it off to be graded. I'm in Canada and return shipping alone is $45.00
Usually people come here posting about a coin that is missing its clad layers, but it is actually an environmentally damaged coin. Without a photo no one here can tell you anything about your coin. Try weighing it. If it weighs 2.268 (+/- .05) grams, it's not what you think it is.
Thanks for the reply. I started a private conversation with you regarding this coin and a link to the images.
I just finished making a webpage for the coin images so send me a private email and I can give you the link. I think posting a link in a thread is not permitted.
Not that interested in pictures until I know the weight, in grams to two places. A dime missing both clad layers should weigh around 1.3 grams. If it is just discolored it will be around 2.27 grams. Big difference and much more definitive than an image.
Thanks for the reply, I emailed a pic to an error expert and he was nice enough to reply that the coin is corroded or I suppose, discolored . I am still going to weigh it when I visit my local coin shop.
