Good to know for next time. Of course I used the WD40 on my most expensive coin.

That's a good point - I make sure I get all the residue off before storage. I'd be careful with the acetone - it will eat some plastics. I've kept some in a glass Pyrex bowl which of course it did not harm, but it sure stained/discolored the plastic lid in short order. I'm afraid to try it on a PCGS case - who's going to be the Guinea pig?

I did drop a few small drops of acetone on the back edge of a PCGS slab and it etched it to a frosty drop. It was full strength acetone. It was an accident, not an 'experiment' :)

Good point on the acetone, was a mistake for me to suggest it. Brain cramp I guess

I had a friend who walked into my chem lab with his motorcycle helmet/vizor and i noticed he was starting to squirt acetone on the vizor to clean it. It was like one of those commercials where someone is running and yelling NO NO NO NO, but too late, he had a frosted vizor. Plastic polish didn't really work, so he had to buy a new one. Acetone attacks most plastics, be careful. Alcohol should be OK.

And alcohol is what I always used on my own because I always had that around the house. Acetone however, not something I would normally keep around unless I had a specific use for it.

Still can't believe I said that above

Here's my submission to how I cleaned some very bad scratched areas on my coin holder. I received it this way from a seller. 3000 grit sandpaper/ slightly wet. And alot of polishing with a plastic restore compound. Looks like a brand new holder now.
the first photo is from the heritage auction page. and the second is the end result.
