These coins pictured here seem to be the same, with only one difference, could anyone tell me why the difference? Is one of them silver..or?
The one is an actual coin. The other is an artists representation. I wouldn't try to analyze it to deeply.
Oh ok I see what you mean, but still the difference is obvious and I like to analyze every single minor thing on coins....
The one with the "XY" is a beautified version of the plaster model that an artist submits to the jury. Since the design competitions are anonymous, the artist cannot have his or her initials on the model. Putting XY there indicates where the initials will be in case the artist wins. The "Till Eulenspiegel" collector coin was designed by Friedrich Brenner. So the initials on the actual coins are FB ... in a somewhat playful style. If you have the silver version, it will clearly say so on the eagle side. Christian
