Hi, I have come across a couple of coins that I can't seem to find much information on and thought maybe someone here could help. The first is an 1851 smv california gold baldwin twenty d. Now I understand there were several replicas made and that really I should just take it to a dealer and have it appraised, but I live in the sticks, and we just don't get out much, especially out to a town, so is there any basic information such as what size it should be, how much should it weigh ect.. I keep researching it online and keep coming up with nothing. The second coin I have is very tiny. It is approx. 7/16 of an inch across and about 1/16 of an inch thick. It has andrew jackson on one side with the dates 1829, and 1837 on either side of him, and on the other side it has the eagle. It dosent have any denomination on it. Does anybody know what this is? Coin, token, ????
What you need to do is post some pictures of your coins. Then, maybe we can help you. And yes, there are many fakes. But knowing the weight and size isn't necessarily going to tell you if the coin is a fake or not. It might help, just like pictures might help. But the info and the pics together still can't tell you if the coin is genuine. Only an in hand examination by an expert can do that for you. And given your situation, you have two choices. Either take the coins to an expert, or send the coins to an expert. But keep in mind, just because somebody is a dealer that does not mean that they are an expert, or that they even know anything.
the baldwin is a gold coin, everything else is a fake for that coin, I think the other one is a set that shell gas put out
Ok sorry it seems as though my computer wanted a vacation, anyway here are the pictures of the "baldwin 20 d, and as for the andrew jackson coin, it is so small I could'nt get any good pics of it so I think I will try and scan it and get it on here as well. thanks for any help!
