I have always liked Alexandrian coin but have never pulled the trigger on a Nero Tetradrachm... until now. This was another purchase without any rationale other then breaking a coin drought.

    Nero Billon Tetradrachm
Obv:- NERW KLAY KAIS SEB GER, Radiate head of Nero right
Rev:– AYTO-KPA, Draped bust of Serapis right
Minted in Alexandria. LI in right field. Dated Year 10 (63/4 AD).
    Reference:– Köln 160; Dattari 251; Milne 222; Emmett 133; RPC I 5274

The coin has a dark brown tone.

Glad you're off the wagon, Martin! Been too long since you've posted :)

    Interesting patina on that one.

I really like these billion coins, they have a totally different look to them, the lite green patina sets the off the details, very nice..

I really love the coins from Alexandria as well ...

I have a similar example with Julia Mamaea rather than your lovely Nero version (sadly, it looks as though she's been in a bit of a grease-fire, but luckliy the reverse makes-up for her poor kitchen mishap)

The engraver of you reverse seems to have a much more refined hand on him than mine.

Obviously Martin, "both" of our coins rock!! (great new pick-up, my coin-friend!!)

Oh, and I'm sure that your coin scores huge cool-points for being a "Nero" (Nero coins seem to get a lot of pocket-book respect!!)

... oh, and my artist definitely had a great advantage over yours, for luckily Serapis wore his "nicest & biggest hat" to the Julia Mamaea coin portrait-sitting!!

    ;)

=> for the record Martin => I'm lovin' your fall-off-the-wagon series (I hope there are still more to come!!?)

SIDE-NOTE: I am on the edge of my seat, waiting to see if you managed to score the ol' L-Papius Dog-n-Snake?!!

    Steve,
I am aware of one that is on the market that I missed with one dealer and it has now truend up with another dealer. The price was high in the first place for the quality of the coin. The new dealer has doubled the price. I will wait for another one.
