I am looking to purchase this coin, but auction figures and scarcity estimates are all over the place for it, so I am looking to get a couple opinions on the grade you would assign to this coin. Thank you for your help. Sorry for the thumb in the way o the reverse, but the others were too fuzzy.
Wow that is a beautiful dollar but with the noticeable vertical and horizontal lines on the reverse it looks like it may have been whizzed at one time.
I think the detail of the coin could easily be in the Almost Uncirculated category as even the bosom is still rounded on this one.
Bigtee44 What would be a price to make you pull the trigger and buy, even with the consensus having been cleaned?
Here's one similar to yours, he's asking over $6,000. I wouldn't pay anything close to that though. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1862-Seated...88?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item2eb600e970
the seller is at 2500. I guess if I am looking for investment coins it shouldnt be cleaned as this one is, but how much does it hurt the value? Is it rare enough that in 20 or 30 more years having been cleaned will not affect value much? I am feeling conflicted... I appreciate all your comments so far.
Coins such as this will most always bring a lesser price and can be tough to sell. The years will probably tone the coin and hide the cleaning a bit but not enough to change things much. It will always be a problem coin.
I agree with AU details, harshly cleaned. In this price range I think it is worth it to pay the extra bucks to purchase a third party graded example rather than buying raw.
