Happy Birthday to our favourite trichologist/expert archer/paranoid tyrant, the 11th Emperor of the Roman Empire - Titus Flavius Caesar Domitianus Augustus (b. 24 October 51 - d. 18 September 96).

I haven't had the chance to photograph my one Domitian coin yet, but would be happy to see everyone else's!

Here's my Domitian, from the Huntington collection, with a very rare reverse type of a bust of Minerva rather than the full statue as usual. I couldn't quite capture the surfaces completely in this image, but it's close:

I thought it might be entertaining to follow Joe's post with this hideous fouree mule, lol. Obverse of Vespasian, reverse of Domitian. I wonder if the maker of this coin was fed to the beasts...

Ok, I had no idea it was his birthday, either. But I do have some of his coins: December 26 098.JPG December 26 101.JPG Pictures February 21 2009 083.JPG Pictures February 21 2009 092.JPG DCAM0100.JPG DCAM0106.JPG

Nice ones VK and JW. I always wanted the reverse with the owl but too good of a deal surface with mine & I am content with it.

Nice Domitians, everyone, thanks! I especially like Steve's, Eduard's and AJ's.

To quote the birthday boy :

"Be assured that nothing is more pleasing than beauty, but nothing shorter-lived."

He clearly wasn't talking about coins.

Here's my modest Minerva sans owl denarius.

There was a Domitian and Domitia in that mixed lot I recently bought. A Phriggin Phryigian As.

A rare variety; the common one also has TRP dating making this probably one of the first coins made after Titus died and Domitian assumed the title. re1460b01576lg.jpg
