awesome Doug => thanks for the clarification

Huh, I wonder why the seller had that incorrect? (I guess the whole Saturn-Jupiter, father-son thingy is a bit too close to call every now and then?)

=> is that considered a "rule of thumb" or what?

    thanks again

Early Aes Grave from various places had various types but the standard set (prow reverse) from Rome was Janus, Saturn, Minerva, Hercules, Mercury and Roma in that order. Why? I have no idea . I will note that Janus starts with an I and Saturn with an S so their initials are on their coins. Minerva takes 4 strokes to make the 4 dot triens while Hercules takes 3 to make the 3 dot quadrans. That series falls apart for the 2 and 1 dot coins so I doubt that it had anything to do with the matter.

Hey Doug, honestly, do you ever get tired of being so coin-cool?

He may get tired once in awhile but it isn't something that you can shut off. It's what us kids nowadays call swag. He has coin swag.

Wow. I feel like I just channeled my inner 17 year old.

Doug wrote, "Now is the time for you to post your examples of this same type (not just any Republican)." Here is my coin of Doug's type. Doug's harpa is better. The cupid on this one is weak, but the biga and driver are fully on the flan. The "EX SC" is visible below Saturn's neck.

That is an excellent coin with M and 6 dots. I guess I would prefer a letter that you could tell was backwards but that is getting way too picky. This is the nicest one I have seen.
