Hey, don't get me wrong => I love auctions, but man, I absolutely hate the "waiting part"!!

... yah, I'm one of those fools that makes their bids way up-front, so then I have to wait a couple of weeks before I find-out if my bid is worthy!! (ummm, so obviously that influences any other coin-purchases!!)

... yah, it's a bit like waiting for paint to dry, or for grass to grow, or for a kettle to boil, etc, etc!!

anyway ... hopefully tomorrow I'll have a thread or two to post!!

Ummmm ... am I an outlier, or do others have this same dilemna?

=> geesh, I guess if I wasn't totally unstable, I'd wait until auction-day to make my bids, eh?

Oh, and by the way => there may have been a similar thread lately, so don't feel at all obligated to respond to this thread (it is merely more of a steam blow-off, than anything else) ...

Good luck in tomorrow's auctions, brothers & sisters!! (I always look forward to everybody's new coin threads!!)

    Cheers!!

I tend to find waiting for auctions results very stressful too
My strategy is to bid early (usually the amount I think I'm able to pay for a said item, no more, no less) and to forget it to avoid any hysterical late reaction.

Then wait, wait and wait as I can't forget

i look for my coin in the auctions that are ending soon and see if any are in my price range.... if so i place my bid and add a max bid that is the max i am willing to pay.

Yah, some of those printed auctions are basically "cruel punishment"

I get paranoid more though when I win a bid, and have to wait for it to be shipped, and the time it takes to get to me. I've had dealers loose coins I paid for, but thankfully(knock on wood) nothing lost in transit.

Same, one of my coins finally shows its moving after a week of it being marked as "shipped". Its from the u.s. too. Weird.

Unlike randy ive lost some coins though. International packages are what make me a wreck, it isnt the bidding.

I hear ya Steve! Half of my 'birthday' coins are in bids ending tomorrow or Thursday.

    Fingers crossed!

Wow, I stayed away from my Numisbids watch list for the last week few days to avoid temptation. Dang, there are a TON of coins I've marked coming up. Still recovering from the last month of auctions though. Would be smart to just not look for the next month or two.

Yeah, so much for that. I slipped and got up early today and put in a few bids, didn't even try to watch the auction. Won a couple. Yay? Now if I can translate the Spanish invoice and figure out how to pay them...

Spent a couple of hours trying to get money to Gorny & Mosch today. I swear-- banks are happy to take my money but they make it so hard to spend! Comedy of phone calls trying to get the transaction approved. Like an Abbott & Costello routine.

ahaha => yah, I hear ya

I make a stupid amount of money, but sadly, I am afraid to go back to my hometown for a week because I'm not sure if I have enough in the bank for a three day rent-a-car!! (ummm, but I have a squadron of $500 coins arriving to northern Manitoba!!)

    ... yikes ...

    "it's apparently time to re-group!!"

I agree - international shipping is a nightmare. I've lost two coins in the last few months which weren't terribly expensive but still highly irritating as I quite liked them...

In all the years I've been buying coins domestically and internationally, I've had no problems wit the international shipping, but some few coins from domestic destinations have not arrived.

I received a coin from France today. In a regular envelope, a piece of folded corrugated cardboard inside, taped shut. I opened it. No coin. No flip.

    Sinking feeling.

Looked closer, there was a flap-like partial thickness cut on the inside, taped over, and a slight bump there. The coin was hidden in that pocket. Whew!

Oh, and the Hadrian/Africa finally arrived after a 4200 mile detour. Safe and sound now. Looks fabulous. Can't wait to reshoot it but I left my good camera at work.

I've been waiting for a coin for over 2 months now. Dealer was supposed to have his consignor ship it directly to me. Instead the consignor took a month to ship it to HIM. Only after I checked did he say he shipped it on to me the day before. It's now been 5 weeks since he shipped it (even though mail from the US usually takes 1.5 - 3 weeks to reach me).

I haven't had a package go missing yet, but I guess there'll always be the first time.
    International shipping.... argh!

I have been limiting myself to specific coins and conditions I like, so its a bit hard for me to bid on much.

But I do know the feeling of bidding on items. For me its not the long wait for it to be over, its the last few seconds of the auction. Will the price be bumped up to my max bid? Will I get outbid? or will I have the chance to squeeze in another few bucks at the end...? The agony :(

WHat I hate is auctions open up and for a while you are dreaming of all of the coins you can purchase. THEN, the last couple of days they just go up and up and up....... Half of the time I scope out like 6 lots, and am lucky if I am finally able to bag just one. :(
