What date does this look like?

its was labeled as an 03, but I kept seeing it different...figured for $20 I would roll the dice...i dont think the leaves and the second S in states line up with the 04 either....

Neither the obverse or reverse match up with the single die pairing of 1804.

8 0 is too far apart. The leaf under (E)S is centered rather than left. But any draped bust is good at $20.

Looks like S-261 is a good candidate. Large Fraction with Long Fraction Bar with leaf under right upright of M and a short leaf covering the base of the (N)T looks like Rev O and the wide spacing of the date along with the location of the lettering relative to the hair, HWH centered under R and SHWH centered under E and JHF centered between T and Y looks like Obv 13. But I didn't check the 1805-1807. Before 1803 and most in 1803 have a small fraction.

You can rule out the 1805-1807 too.

    1803 S-258

it's a large fraction with the gap between the ends of the wreath below the serif of the S. that is S-258, 259, 260, or 261. S-257, 1804 266, and 1807 275 and 276 all have the gap in a different place. The Junction of the hair and forehead is centered between the T&Y and the only one of the first group of four with the JHF in that position is S-258.

    definer definitely....! LOL

Could it be a 1804 "restrike?" Red Book 67th Edition (2014) bottom of page 102. These were actually struck around 1860 using an altered 1803 for the obverse and the reverse of the 1820.

No, the obverse of the 1804 restrike used the obv of S-261 not 258. JHF in a different location. Also the 1820 reverse die is a completely different design than on the OP coin.

Absolutely NOT an 1804 - leaf positions relative to letters are wrong. Too many problems to list.
