A most unusual Mexico 8 reales.. 1829 MX RG

    Posted this on another forum a few days ago, hoping for info on what exactly it is.

    First I thought it was a counterfeit, but since it does not have a denomination, mint or assayer mark it is really a fantasy piece. It's definitely old though.

    Saw it on ebay where it sold for $434.

    Thoughts?

    Don't know much on these types (i.e., predominatly a portrait Carolus III,IV & Ferdinand VII espert) but contemporary counterfeits as you know can have missing and/or blundered legends which may be the case here on this prize specimen. Robert Gurney is the world leading authority on counterfeit 8R Cap and Rays - perhaps he could expound further on this piece.

    Thanks John, yes I've had quite a few conversations with good ol' swamperbob on contemporary counterfeits. =)
