Looks like a strong reverse...if it's real, it's probably worth something like $2,000. You should get it slabbed.

I'd say about VF-25 . Non_cents gave some good advice get it slabbed as there are many fakes out there and it will be easier to sell if you do want to sell . On a real strong reverse the second 2 will be stronger than the 1st 3 digits , also the word Trust will be stronger than , In God We . These diagnostics are for the strong reverse variety . Good luck .

That looks to be real, but you really need to get it slabbed. I think it has a shot at AU which would make it as much as a $4,000 coin. If that is real, you had some good and/or lucky relatives.

Dick , can't believe I'm so far off , I was thinking EF but still . Maybe you should include some worn coins in your GTG . Was the obverse die more worn than the reverse , as the reverse looks so much stronger . :)

I said it has a shot at au. It will probably come back XF. And, absolutely the reverse is so much stronger than the reverse. It is called a no "D" strong reverse and that one has a better than average obverse. Look at some of them on Heritage. They have a XF45 where the jaw/cheek is totally flat - CAC'ed to boot. http://coins.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1145&lotNo=3895 Those are weird coins to grade. You have to literally look for the wear and there is very little here, but a lot of weak strike.

Believe the OP has made a couple threads about this coin from years past... It's a lovely piece, but I'm no good at grading the intricacies of this particular year. Great Coin!

CAC is a third party grader that grades the tpgs . It'l put a green sticker on the slab if it is middle of the grade or top of the grade . In each grade you can divide the coins in 3 groups . C. would be low end for the grade , it just barely made the grade it recieved . Then there's the B. coins , solid for the grade but no better . The there's the A. coins that meat all the criteria for the grade and some for the next grade , it's a high for the grade coin . Coins A and B would recieve a green sticker , where C would not . This lets people know they aren't receiving a low end for the grade coin . Then there are the coins that are under graded and should receive the next grade these would recieve a gold sticker . Coins with the stickers almost always sell for more money because they are superior coins . Hope this helps .

Interesting, and thanks for the info. If I were to have this coin graded, what company do you feel would give me the best grade?

You do not want the best grade. That would be NNC, SGS, etc and they will not sell. You want NGC or PCGS. I would go with whoever you got the better deal with. I would also use a local dealer otherwise you may be paying more in shipping that certification.

What rlm's cents said . If you join the ANA you get to submit your own coins . Right now they're are the only 2 that will sell easily .

i would say it is a vf and i would say worth more in the 1,600-1700 dollar range !!

What I learned from this thread is that you grade the '22 no D , Strong reverse from the reverse side as the obverse dies were so worn . I thought it was a VF too until I learned that .

i read about grading from the reverse also (see my original post above). if you feel it is VF on the obverse, what is your thinking about the reverse grade?

Was this coin sent out? I would love to see the results. If it is graded by the reverse, I'm going with XF45.

Rlm's hit it spot on the nose. He knows his cents. ^.- Solid XF-45, maybe have a shot at AU. However, I lean more toward XF-45 - that is your safest bet.
