Experienced clad quarter collectors - any of these look like a MS 66/67?

I'm sure I can come up with 100 coins no problem. I wonder though, can modern and the others be combined? Or would it be 100 modern and 100 others?

    PCGS or NGC?

Since most, if not all will be toned, they will go to NGC in hopes of a star grade here or there.

It says "A bulk submission is considered to be 100 coins of the same type." I would take that to mean 100 quarters, 100 Ikes, etc, but maybe someone else here would be able to shed some more light without having to spend the money to be an elite member to find out exactly.

I was possibly planning on doing this sometime next year as I have over 100 Ike toners I'd like to submit as well, and some of them are varieties so I'm not sure how that would work either, if the varieties would count outside the 100 or not.

I would go NGC, as I am finding that I am liking a lot more of the toned coins that I find in NGC holders. Some folks think they are less kind to toners, but I disagree. Some of my nicest, most appealing coins are in NGC plastic, and I find I search NGC even before PCGS nowadays, when I seek nice toners.

Yupp.....the 71 Kennedy was a Proof 67 star. No great surprise there. The 73 was straight proof 67.

I agree... I've seen a lot of PCGS Ike toners lately that seem inconsistent, at least from my perception. I've got some that don't seem AT that graded "questionable", meanwhile there are some that look way more AT that received a regular grade. NGC seems to be a little more consistent with grading the toners. Whether that means their definition of "market acceptable" toning is looser than PCGS, maybe. Either way tho I do agree I like the look of toners in the NGC holder better, maybe it's the white insert that helps, not sure.

Well for me, it's not about what toning they will slab, as I am confident that anything I submit will not be questioned.
Paul (Lehigh) made a very good point to me the other day:
It was about Jefferson nickels specifically, but it's a valid point for other types.

    He said (paraphrased):
PCGS registry collectors are looking for the high grade nickels with full steps when possible.
So if I have nicely toned nickels that are not choice high grade with full steps, I am better off sending them to NGC and hopefully getting a star*. These will generally sell better than a non full step nickel in a PCGS holder.

The '71 is now NGC PF 67 star, according to the report. Don't have the coin back yet.

I like a couple for maybe making a 66.... but could be I'm overoptimistic. I just think that some might make that. In particular, I am thinking the 1977 you have near the beginning is a real special one.

the toning on all of these coins is stunning, but the strikes aren't gem. The eagle's chest is an area that I just don't see strong enough strike on these coins and although they may indeed merit a + due to toning, they will not receive gem grades

Disagree completely. The strikes and the surface preservation on all of them look at least MS 65. I would be very surprised if ANY of them are less than 65. That being said, probably not too many would make 66 or 67. However, given the toning it really doesn't matter in terms of how well they will sell, if slabbed and made 'market acceptable.' As has been said, do a mass submission and get the suckers graded. The solid gem ones will sell quite nicely. I have seen ordinary garden variety MS 63--64 Kennedy halves with really pretty toning sell for upwards of $100. It is the color that sells this type of coin, and unusual colors sell if they are in plastic. Don't listen to the grading of amateurs--get them slabbed by pros, and put their seal of acceptability on the coins. NGC is really good at toners lately.

I thought there was some debate about your gorgeous "powder blue" Peace dollars? Not saying you or anyone AT them, but isn't it still a crapshoot of being Market Acceptable at either TPG?

Peace Dollars are a series that have been scrutinized carefully by the TPGs only because of David Hall's incredibly stupid comment. That is an emotional thing, and I find that coins that are reasonably toned (even Peace Dollars) have no problem getting through with a grade. It is those obvious "shake and bake" coins that ruin the market for collectors of legitimate "M.A." coins. Besides, I doubt that David Hall ever had an album of Peace Dollars--a lot of them had fantastic colors due to album toning. :)

As for requesting Minimum grades, this is only used for Crossovers not raw coin submissions.
Any number you put in that slot on a raw coin submission will be ignored.
You will be charged if the coin grades or not.

True. The one way Greg could save money is with the "modern" submissions, or the 100 coin plus, submission.
