I found this one the other day. Not quite sure how it happened. I would like to know your thoughts on this one. Thanks. Extra Stem Reverse.jpg Extra Stem Reverse 2.jpg

it looks like a well placed die gouge or die break or maybe part of a major clashed die that has been abraided away by the mint workers. whatever it was looks like the mint workers tried to polish it off the die judging by the heavy grind and polish marks on your coin.

That's interesting, it might be a gouge or a clash. I'm sure guys like Simon and some of the veteran CT people will have a better idea of what you have.

Can you post the whole coin, obverse and reverse?

    Probably a die gouge.

Hmmm... I just think that it's a little weird because it relates in thickness to the stem beside it. Thank you all for your responses.

I can't really see it being a doubled die...a spread that strong would for sure show on more than just a small part of the stem.

Looks like it could be a crack or some form of die damage. It certainly is unusual looking, though.

What I can't figure out for sure is why did the die have to be abraided so much in this area ? looks like the die may have received some heavy damage and then abraided in a attempt to fix it back.

I think it is a die crack.
