Just wondering how many are from the Queen City area, who you are, how long you have collected, and what is your collection focus? It might even be nice if there is enough of us to have meet ups and enrich each one another's mind. Diversity can lead to helping each other better understand other avenues of collecting. So neighbors... Where you at?
I'll go first. I moved to CLT a little over a year ago with my gal. We live within the city and are from the Midwest. I haven't had much time for growing my collection here as I work more and have no clue as to quality local auctions or other alternative places to get good deals. I do what I can, but being here has slowed me down. Back home I was spoiled with a great bi monthly coin show in town and it is common for pawn shops back there to sell coins. Usually a little over spot if silver, unless an obvious CC Morgan and such. My gal has taken to collecting silver bullion. She just started and is just buying here and there when she sees a design she likes, which I encourage as its not just about silver hoarding. So far its foreign bullion, and many have animals. We buy copper rounds as well but for for the fun of the designs. I have collected for three years, and at 36, I started a little late. I have the standard 90% silver, not a lot, but enough to enjoy. I have found enjoyed collecting medals, and tokens. I have a few pounds of random tokens/medals that I picked up by the pound via auction. More to explore than for value. Currently I have been putting together sets for state or city centennial medals. Bronze, silver, copper, pewter, etc. It's a fun way to focus the little time I have into completing collections. Yeah, I think this is a good start.
I'm not trying to chase you away from CT but you do know Charlotte has a local coin club don't you? http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...RgxP49eL1ETFn9wWg&sig2=O8ZvNK61WqpE5H0i4DaXkQ
Hey thanks for the link. Yeah, I saw there were meetings. Honestly I have never joned a "club" before. I would love to hear more about it, and am curious what the typical meeting is like. I think the website gave me more of a formal meet than a casual gathering, which is what I hope to find. Hopefully someone can shed some insight. It would be great to hear from someone in the club. Thanks again!! Sent from my GT-P5113 using Tapatalk 4
I hope you find some Charlotte collectors in here. But keep in mind coin collectors don't always want to disclose where they live.
Well I'm in NC and my fiancé is from Charlotte, but that's about it. Lol. Welcome to CoinTalk, by the way.
With 1.8 million people, how does one get found? Wouldn't it be riskier to attend a coin club where you meet in person? Also, has anyone ordered from Independent Living Bullion? I heard they are somewhat local as far as their offices are here but ship from Ohio. Just curious as I haven't heard of them before moving here. They legit?
Never heard of them. If you post the question in the bullion forum they can probably tell you something.
Hey Swine, I live a little to the North of you in Concord/Kannapolis. The Charlotte coin club is a great club. They have some really good presentations at the monthly meetings. The President(Jerry) of the club is a very good guy with a great knowledge and is always willing to share. You should check out the meetings. Unfortunately, they're a little far for me to attend regularly, but I will meet you down there if you want. Just shoot me a PM. I will be working the Coin show coming up next month in Salisbury. You just missed the coin show a few weeks ago at the Metrolina Expo. Also Charlotte Coin Club has their show in February, I think, at the Metrolina Expo. It's a good show.
Hey thanks. Yeah, I figured I was missing shows. Everything I have seen info about has been big shows in Raleigh or elsewhere. I will have to look up info on the one coming up. Concord, huh? My gal used to work out at a company in the antique mall building out there. I like it out there.
I am in Raleigh and hit the shows at the fairgrounds whenever they have them. One coming up in the middle of Nov. Check out this site and look at the show calendar. http://ncnaonline.org/index.html
I live about an hour and a half from Charlotte and my Inlaws live in Matthews. There was a really snobby coin shop at the Arboretum but they closed this year. They wouldn't even acknowledge you when you walked in. Found another good shop near an older mall there and the owner is sure friendly. Maybe it's called Carolina Circle Mall??? Yeah, I visited that shop. They guy didnt even say hello and I was there for a good 10 minutes by the time I took the hint. Is the one you are talking about next to a gun shop? Those are some good guys in there.
Not sure if its by a gun shop. It's in a shopping center in the back middle of all the shops. Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
Hey Swine, the Rowan County Coin Club is having their annual show Saturday the 14th in Salisbury. I got a table for the show. If you(or anybody else here) can make it up to the show, stop by and say "Hi". I will be the only non-dealer there with very little on my table. LOL I will be wearing my KC Chiefs hat. The coin show is at the Salisbury Civic Center. https://maps.google.com/maps?expflags=enable_star_based_justifications:true&ie=UTF8&cid=5917166274249195672&q=Civic Center&iwloc=A&gl=US&hl=en
