Title says it all. I don't know if its even worth it to join. Do I get a magazine or something? Are there meetings? Any info would help Thanks, Jason
http://www.money.org/membership/join-the-ana/member-benefits.aspx Renting books from the library would be a great reason to join.
Biggest benefit you get is supporting the main voice of the coin collecting hobby. I know its all we talk about here, so it might make you think we are a lareg group, but we aren't. Having an organization lobby and fight for us in Washington is the main value to me. Yeah, I get the magazine, access to insurance, yada yada, but I mainly do it to help support a worthwhile goal.
Stopping china from counterfeiting coins. This isn't the ANA doing the lobbying in this case, but it still shows that they will go to congress. http://www.pcgs.com/News/Pcgs-Implores-Congress-To-Fight-Imports-And-Sales-Of-Counterfeit
You get to submit coins to NGC and currency to PMG pretty easily without having to jump through hoops to send them through authorized dealers.
I take advantage of the insurance (Hugh Wood), and free NGC account with direct submission privileges, and I also read the printed mag.
Numismatist magazine is most notable and informative. Where the devil is Hobo? He should be responding to this thread as he is an most marvelous (lifetime?) member.
The ANA has written white papers explaining collectors viewpoints to congress, testified before congress, and promoted the hobby protection act, resumption of commemorative coins, etc. It is looked upon in this country to be the voice of collectors. We need all of the help we can get nowadays imho.
If you are a YN you also have access to programs that allow you to earn free Ancient coins and Early American Copper coins. As for meetings there are two conventions a year and board meetings are held at those that are open to the membership. ANA members get free admission to the conventions.
