Someone give me some information on this coin! Haha ! Ive had this coin for abou 13 years now. This is one of a kind, Lincoln's monument is halfway printed on Lincolns face. Has anyone seen a coin like this before? Does anyone know how much this coin would sell for? I see double die 1955 coins for sale on ebay for about 1500.00 and up. And in 1955 there were a lot of common error for the penny. This penny is from 1972. Can anyone help me. Thanks
Yep. Nothing rare about it...some glue or epoxy that was left over from 2 coins stuck together. Not an error of any sort.
i had one just like that, a 1956 with two lincoln heads, till i picked one of the heads off with my fingernail....
Perhaps it is, but from what I see, KJ called it; a little glue or the like and voila.... "one of a kind". Hey, you win some and you lose some.
Have you looked at this area under magnification? The glue should be easily seen without much effort.
Rick, as this was your first post , let me welcome you to the Forum. Many members arrived with a 'one of a kind' and stayed around to learn more about coins, I hope you do also. Jim
He asking for help about it's worth. If this is a doctored coin, or meant to mislead someone into thinking it's an error, he needs to understand that. Saying it's looks pretty neat and don't mess with it, might give him the impression it could be valuable in the marketplace. That may be true to a few who don't care about a coin being authentic, but not to dealer's or most here. I wouldn't want to encourage that thought.
I didn't mean it like that. What I meant was I wouldn't try to get the glue off of there. It's not ike it is a super rare expensive coin. If the owner of the coin likes it then don't mess with it if you think it's cool. This doesn't mean it is valuable to the coin coecting world but it could to the collector who owns it just because he/she likes it. I have coins like that which I keep around only because they look neat. I wouldn't sell them, just stare at them on the shelf every now and again.
I believe the gentleman's point was that it is most important for the OP to understand the reality of his coin. While there is nothing wrong with what you said, or your opinion to leave as-is, we still must take care not to send mixed signals or confuse those new to or unfamiliar with such coins. P.S. Welcome to the forum, Mr. Hart.
So the real question is, who wants to buy this for 1500.00? Must see coin, great shape, and glue has dried!!
Yeah that is true. When you get right down to it it's what the guy wants to do. Is this coin a legitimate error? most likely not is it worth any money? no but someone might buy it as more of a novelty item if they think it is cool as well.Is there a possibility it is an actual error? a very slim chance because first the mint tries very hard to correct or melt down errors they produce in addition if such error existed it would have been discovered by now. but there is a slim chance that an error could have gone undetected for 51 years. Would I ever sell a coin like this in my store? no.But coins like these do get people to turn their heads and look at my stand at coin shows. So there is an advertising perk to it.
