Is it correct that there are a lot of these coins that are fake ? If so what is it that one should look out for to tell it is not genuine . Thanks
There are enough fakes to fill a volume just devoted to counterfeits. The best solution in your case is to buy a coin already certified by PCGS or NGC and to purchase the coin from a legitimate dealer.
Yes there are lots of them that are fake. As to what to look for, the most common thing is what we call the mushy look. In other words the edges of the devices, dates, mottoes, and legends are not clear & sharp, not well defined if you will. Instead they look almost blurry or softened around the edges. They call it mushy. With certain date/mint combinations there are specific die diagnostics for known fakes. Your best bet to learn all of that is to buy some books on the subject.
